BEG has its headquarters in Guarcino: It is the cogeneration plant that produces electricity and thermal energy and which supplies a great part of the energy requirements of the Paper Mill in Guarcino.

The production process is broken down into different phases:

+

Tanks

The biofuels that are mainly used come from palm oil and other vegetable oils. For some years now the technicians of the power plant have developed the right expertise and know-how in order to also use oils that have a medium acidity level, those same oils which prove to hold little interest for the food or biodiesel sectors. Moreover, since 2015 the plant also uses alternative fuel sources from animal fats. Bio Energia Guarcino is equipped with 4 storage tanks: 2 tanks, each with a capacity of 1,750m3, and 2 tanks for daily use each with a capacity of 30m3

Electric power

The power plant is made up of 3 motor generators (diesel engines from ships and naval vessels that have been adapted by the manufacturer in order to generate electricity and heat) and each one has the following characteristics: mechanical power equal to 7.092 KW and electrical power equal to 7.125 KW, for a total production amounting to 20 MW of electric power per hour.
+

Heat energy

Every engine produces fumes and thanks to the use of heat recovery boilers (heat exchangers) it is possible to transform these fumes to produce up to a maximum of 3.9 tons/h of steam, at an average value of 3 tons/h, for a total of 9 tons/h of steam. The power plant is connected thermically to the paper mill of Guarcino and provides it with it’s entire production of steam and hot water.

Power plant

Bio Energia Guarcino is able to produce 20 MW of electric power an hour, almost a third of which, approximately 7 MW, is supplied to the paper mill in Guarcino, while the remainder is destined to be sold on the national electricity network. Electricity reaches the transformer substation, where it is then conducted into a high-voltage mesh (150,000 volts) allowing for the transfer of electricity to the national network.
